In 1796, Master Distiller Basil Hayden Sr. defied 'the rules' by incorporating tiny grains into the mash of a typical bourbon corn basis, believing that the peppery taste of rye would be an excellent compliment to the sweet smoothness of corn. Basil Hayden's Bourbon was a masterpiece: a one-of-a-kind small batch bourbon whisky with rich undertones of peppermint, pepper notes, subtle citrous overtones, and a spicy, warming aftertaste.
