Bridge Road Brewers x Netherworld Arcade x The Scratch Bar Brisbane’s strange sister venues The Scratch Bar and Netherworld Arcade got lost in the woods and procured a smorgasbord of umami magic and fungal frivolity to brew this rich stout with a savoury hit. A dark, full-bodied beer with a luscious head. It offers a sweet toffee and chocolate aroma, silky mouthfeel, and a balanced flavour profile of umami, mushroom and roast with a residual sweetness and hints of dark chocolate.

Such great umami flavour

One of the best stouts, there should be more mushroom stouts

Forget the Atomic Mushroom!!

Shrooms of Doom promised more than it delivered. The Doom is missing. Umani means savory and as this is intended as savory mushrooms, the flavour of fungus isn't bitter nor sweet. Granted, as a Stout, it is still most enjoyable and will definitely satisfy. However, a craft beer friend said he tasted a flicker of mild raspberry, so it has some gentle fruitiness. I would have anticipated something more meaty, more fungal. Although mildly disappointing, the mushrooms used may not have been the Bolitus, which sends the people of Polish heritage on their salivating autumn hunt in the forest. Bridge Road made a mushroom Stout some years ago which was superior to this brew.
