A beautifully mature and powerful Armagnac, the Francis Darroze 1989 Bellair is a superb example of the depth and individuality that comes with long-aged Grand Bas-Armagnac. Bottled at a robust 50% ABV, it retains remarkable concentration and intensity. The nose is richly aromatic, opening with dried plum, apricot, orange peel, vanilla and polished oak, followed by hints of leather, spice and roasted nuts. The palate is deep and generous, bringing flavours of fig, raisin, dark caramel, cocoa, walnut and baking spices, balanced by a gentle warmth and underlying freshness. The finish is long, complex and beautifully warming, with lingering notes of dried fruit, oak, spice and dark chocolate. The higher alcohol gives the spirit impressive structure, while a little time in the glass allows its more delicate aromas to emerge. A serious, character-filled vintage Armagnac for the enthusiast. Rich, mature and wonderfully complex, with the power of 50% ABV balanced by layers of fruit, spice and beautifully developed oak. A bottle to savour slowly rather than rush.
